The famous...
Guess what I'm going to see next month? Has anyone of you ever seen it? I'm quite curious!

For you cat 'owners'!
Wanna have some fun? Ignore the Dutch text but put your mouse on the photo of one of these 100 birds and you'll hear their song. It drove Finnegan insane! Ha! I'm ebil!

Pic - street theatre
Ah, this was a beautiful show. All the ways in which they used fire; very creative! And how come all the really good theatre groups always seem to be French? Watch the guy in the middle - ouch! (Hidden watermark)

Pic - Eye candy
Our local cultural season was opened a couple of weeks ago with the first street theatre acts. Hope you don't mind me boring you with some pics in the next few entries to come? Let's start with some real eye candy. :D (Hidden watermark)

Disgusting!
Finnegan loves earwax. Don't ask.

Have you ever... ?
Watched a film, listened to music, read a book... You then slowly come back to reality and find yourself shaken to the core? You look around your living room (or wherever you are) only to feel like something has changed. Somehow somewhere down the line the world has changed. You're still thrilled, intrigued, shaken and have a heard time accepting returning to reality. You don't want to, really.
If you ever had that experience, you'll know what I mean. Like to share such an experience? I'd be very curious to hear from you. What book, film, music has ever had such an impact on you?

Please help...???
Please can somebody help me out with a tiny bit of text? I made this photo and am not sure about the narrative. Is it proper English? And is there a way to make the text perhaps somewhat shorter and/or stronger? I'm not quite satisfied but can't seem to put the finger on the 'why' and it frustrates the hell out of me! Forever grateful!!!!!!!! (And probably will be the last to see the new HP - Wednesday!)

The text is:
He is tired. So tired and scared. Tired of all the demands and expectations people and society put upon him. Tired of the mask he ended up wearing 24/7. Tired of the conformist he has become. What's become of all his wild dreams, ideals and fantasies? What has become of him? Who is he? Really? He so desperately wants to know yet he finds himself too scared to find out. Because when he looks inside, it's dark. And everybody knows that monsters live in the dark.
(Sorry for the huge photo but it's best seen large)

Nice surprise and Terry Pratchett
I have this account for all my photos on Flick (http://www.flickr.com/photos/ubod/) and found this mail:

A good thing for the ego! Ha! I never planned to do anything with my photos, except having fun. It's nice when others notice what you're doing, right? I'm sure you'll know what I mean. :D Anyway, checked it out and googled her name and it does seem to be okay. So, I'll guess it's a 'yes'. Still feel a bit baffled, though. *Giggles*
Oh, and yesterday was my weekly visit to the library. You know those days when you feel utterly bored and restless and all you want is a good book to loose yourself in? It was one of those days. Browsed here, browsed there and all the books I had in mind were not there. Then my hand reached out and took a book by Terry Pratchett out of the shelf. Now I know his name but that is about it. Decided to take a gamble and see what he's like and took home his 'Carpe Jugulum'. Oh, what a treasure! Started reading at three in the afternoon and finished the book at a quarter to midnight. Couldn't put it down. Just couldn't. It's such a wonderful feeling finding yourself laughing out loud. Hasn't happened to me in ages! Who am I kidding? It happens rarely at all! Death giving Scraps (a dog) his live back because it was the only way he'd get his scythe back had me roaring with laughter! A vampire stubbornly refusing to accept the knowledge of getting killed by touching holy objects by stating that the other vampire, who was killed, simply wasn't concentrating - had to wipe the tears from laughter from my eyes! Oh, and Igor... oh boy, what a character!
Are all his books like that? If so, I'll be heading back to the library as soon as it opens again! Tips for a good Practchett book?

Just read "New TV Spot for Half-Blood Prince's Arse" instead of " New TV Spot for Half-Blood Prince Airs... " *giggles*
And 'our boys' didn't make it to the finals in the Eurovision Song contest. Good. Me happy. They changed their suits too. From lights to glitters. It still looked awful. Ha!
5/11/09 04:41 pm
I'm so sorry!
The Eurovision song contest is rapidly approaching. I'll apologise upfront for the Dutch trio. They are the worst lot that ever represented us. The kind that makes me look for the remote control in a hurry. You know what I mean? Last night they had a special, introducing their big secret - their outfit. Drum rolls Suits with little led lights. Three walking Christmas trees. Our secret weapon is three too old guys wearing suits that flicker like Christmas trees. They'll perform as the last act so with a bit of luck everybody is taking a break to go to the loo or get some chips.
Okay, okay, I'll be honest. Ejab suffers from prejudice. I don't like them. Really, really don't. But they're awful. Watch and see! You are warned.

Jason Isaacs on tv
Maybe you're interested to know that Jason Isaacs will be a guest upcoming Friday April 3 on Jonathan Ross' show? BBC 1. With this new summertime thing I only know the time here and that will be 23.30.

Finnegan
Remember my cat Finnegan? After almost fourteen years of existence he has discovered... drum rolls... his tail. We were playing yesterday when he looked back to see if he could catch the string. Only to notice this thing at the back of his body. And the end of it moved!. You should have seen his face! Stunned, complete disbelief and fascination - you name it. For a moment I thought he would react like many kittens do - chase their tail or at least play with it a bit but no, not Finnegan. He looked again. Yes, it was still moving. Better to walk away and leave this freaky thing. Honestly, I've never met a cat that was so out of touch with its own body. There should be haptonomy for cats. *g* It's a wonder he bothers to groom himself. *Shakes head*
1/9/09 08:19 pm
Talk about a nice surprise!
We received two inches of snow yesterday! Yay! Photo of this famous kitty *Cough* is somewhat out of focus. Thought it would be appropriate because he was just sitting there. Daydreaming.

Cold cold cold
Typical Dutch? Frozen forelands and suddenly people dust of their skates, get out and freeze. For fun. Yes, yes, tradition and all that... I can't skate so maybe the thrill is a mystery to me. Like to watch on the television. Warm. *g*

This is how most of us learn to skate, right? Next step is trying it on your own and holding on to the chair in front of you. Pretending not to be scared.
Don't you just feel sorry for those poor Konik horses?
Just wanted to share something typical Dutch. Hope you don't mind?
12/21/08 02:24 pm
Love horses? Check this out!
While living in Australia (previous century) they released the film 'Man from Snowy River'. It was shown as a 3D movie so you can imagine the impact this scene had with these huge screens and the 3D effect! What a kick! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DZBXLYJwgt4 Play it loud!
The rest of the film was, apart from the scenery, boring, imho. But this scene is a classic!
I'll shut up now.

Disturbingly fascinating
Oh god, I feel like such a pervert! *Headdesk*
Every Friday, on my way to work, our paths cross. He is about 14 or 15, on his way to school, and manages to radiate innocence and an incredible sensuality at the same time. Beautiful is not the word, because he's not. His face stands out because it is different somehow. A mixture of artistic and angelic. A character face, if that makes sense? So hard to describe.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not talking about a sexual attraction. It's just that every time I see him, there's this fierce desire to take his picture. He would make such a fascinating model!
Oh, if only I had the courage to approach him and ask if he would be willing to pose. Won't happen. No.
Can you imagine his reaction when an old woman (at that age, I am old. You remember how that works, right?) approaches him with that question?
God, I feel silly.

(D)English
Bought this booklet written by an employee of a worldwide operating Dutch company. In that capacity, the man met many friendly business associates. Including visiting Dutch ministers. Here are some wonderful examples of how many Dutch VIP's treat the English language. *g*
"I am the first woman State Secretary for the inside and I am having my first period."
"Although I do not speak such good English, I always get my sin." 'Sin' sounds like 'zin', which would be the appropriate Dutch word to use here.
"How do you do and how do you do your wife?"
"May I thank your cock for the lovely dinner?" 'Cock' sounds like 'kok', which is the Dutch word for 'cook' so he's pretty close, right?
"I thank you from the bottom of my heart and also from my wifes bottom."

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! Hope you'll be spoiled rotten!
*Raises glass and hugs her*
